Summary:

CARMA is a USDOT program developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) involved in advancing research and development of cooperative driving automation (CDA) with the objective of accelerating market readiness and deployment. CDA enables automated vehicles (AVs) to communicate between vehicles, infrastructure devices, and road users such as pedestrians and cyclists. The webinar will detail the CARMA ecosystem including the program’s use cases, methods for evaluation, and opportunities to develop in a collaborative environment.

 The webinar will also present key updates from the larger CARMA program and the latest software updates. Join us to learn how  your organizations can implement CARMA to enrich your transportation research.

Presenters:
Taylor Lochrane, FHWA: Taylor Lochrane, Ph.D., P.E., Technical Manager, Federal Highway Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation. Dr. Lochrane is the Technical Manager for the Cooperative Automation Research Program in the Office of Operations Research and Development located at Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC). He is currently leading a team of engineers developing the CARMA platform which supports testing and evaluation of cooperative driving automation (CDA).
 

Pavle Bujanovic, FHWA: Pavle Bujanović entered his new role at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as a Research Engineer for the CARMA Program in August 2019. Prior he was a part of the CARMA Program as postdoctoral fellow with the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. He received his PhD in 2018 from the University of Texas at Austin and his MS in 2013 from Stanford University. His research interests include developing cooperative driving automation (CDA) features to improve traffic operations and safety, and understanding the network impacts of connectivity and automation.
 

Sudhakar Nallamothu, Leidos: Mr. Nallamothu is currently a Project Manager for the Saxton Transportation Operations Laboratory (STOL) in the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). He directs CARMA and other projects in the field of connected and automated vehicles. Previously, Mr. Nallamothu managed the ATMS/ATIS software development and was an Applications Manager for transportation. He provided software product management guidance, including management of the agile software development life cycle and research and development (R&D) program.
